United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc. (USET), a Tribal Epidemiology Center in Nashville, TN, has released their recommendations after the FDA reported that the Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 Diagnostic Test may falsely show a patient is clear of COVID-19 if the patient has a lower viral load.
USET recommends that clinicians interpret negatives along with other patient information, i.e. symptoms and exposure. If a false negative is suspected, an alternative test should be administered.
