This event, Disrupt the Silence: A Community Day of Action, is part of a series of events that UIHI is encouraging other individuals and organizations around the country to hold themselves. These events stem from the need for more accurate data about missing Native people in federal databases.
During this event, we had a drum circle, a community meal, and laptops available for community members to enter their missing loved ones’ information into NamUs. The event was a beautiful display of community and strength and resilience. We had over 20 community members join us and one person that entered information into NamUs. That’s one more missing Native person whose name is known in the data.
To bring more awareness to MMIWG and community activities, we invited media to attend and report on the event. We worked with the reporters and community members during the event to ensure it was done appropriately. Check out the articles that came out of the event.

Preceding the Community Days of Action, on June 5, 2019, UIHI hosted a webinar in partnership with NamUs to show partners, community members, and tribal leaders how to enter information into NamUs in preparation for Community Days of Action. The webinar was watched by over 600 people.
